i visited this cemetery just today, July 2, 2023. i really, really miss the giant evergreen tree i captured over twenty years ago. the first time i ever photographed this evergreen was in 1983. back then it was already a giant tree. the tallest tree in this cemetery, hands down, by twenty feet or so.

Artist's Description

very tall grave headstone to the right of evergreen is where Stanford White was laid to rest. his wife is to his right, marked by a much smaller headstone. other family members are in an arc in front of Stanford headstone. This photograph still deeply moves me even after looking at it hundreds of times. Have returned to photograph this headstone and the rest of this local cemetery many, many times in the past year. I think I have taken most of my most important cemetery photographs based on this powerful personal image.
